Event Idea:

okay so given that rufus has apparently taken it upon himself to make some party in an attempt to figure out what the hell is going on around here....and totally failed.... i'd be down to turn this into some part of an event! especially for next month, it could be a welcome party/halloween party combination, in the place that was indicated by the royal We, and a nice mingle-event for everyone to come together into one place (whether that would end up for better or for worse...). could even incorporate a costume party element? which could be the source of all kinds of terrible things, like masks being fused to faces or the wearer becoming whatever the costume dictates, things like that... (just to throw out some super lame ideas!)

i would be happy to write up a blurb about decorations or food/drink provided or any of that, if necessary, but i'm also okay with you guys doing what you will and just stamping rufus's name on it! i don't want to get in the way of any planning or other events etc and would be happy to just go with the flow and call it rufus's strange barn party, hehe. i'm very flexible, i just wanted to toss it out there as a possibility.

When:

next month would probably be ideal but if there are already a lot of plans in place, i obviously have no set time limit or anything like that. whenever it would fit in would be great!

The Idea: the anniversary of the ~nibelheim incident~ is coming up (october 1), and this being what one would argue to be the catalyst for many of the bigger things that took place in the ff7 (+compilation) storyline, we were thinking of maybe something spooky happening to these three guys as if to say they aren't allowed to escape, forget, or try to change what has happened (or will come to pass).

Extra Details: it doesn't have to be anything huge, and we're open to tweaking and/or whatever suggestions fit best with the game. we've discussed something along the lines of maybe a burning building that they're all stuck in, but the building is a metaphor? maybe like a shared nightmare. and in order for them to escape it they have to give something up — that something being a truth, a regret, a fear, or some other thing in that vein. some mental/hallucinatory aspects would be appreciated, perhaps in the sense that horrifying things from their mind could be pushed outwards? like jenova or the whispers. it'll be a great bonding experience.

When: october 1

The Idea Media Library/Anime BlockBuster!

A building in Town Center has been converted into a library of sorts. Right now, it only contains a massive collection of anime DVDs, but donations of other media are welcome. Thanks to Papyrus, the DVDs are nicely organized on shelves by genre and then by other category.

Characters are free to browse the collection and borrow anything. They're only asked to fill out a check-out sheet that's attached to a clipboard near the entrance and return the stuff when they're done (but lbr enforcement of this is pretty minimal for now and works mostly on the honor system. Jun would only hunt down GRAVE offenders). Obviously all the anime are boot-leg versions of different anime shows (or anime series that exists in people's canons). Check out here for different ideas or to submit your own.

In addition to the DVD collection, there's different posters of information about how to use a DVD player (with pictures!), recommendations for shows to watch, etc. There's also a large tv with couches/chairs for people to have movie nights there, along with a kitchenette area stocks with theater-type snacks that Jun occasionally refills.

When it starts October 2020!

The Idea
basically wu xie is going to use his skills for design to copy the workings of a typical handgun and bullets and put them in the 'gun' store to make things normalized there. nothing too crazy, nothing too dramatic just a simple gun and such
When it starts he got the designs from mando and ig after they put a couple together in front of him. he also made a network post about the blueprints. hopefully both works ok for this

The Idea: Nero got asked to fix the lighthouse and then post about fixing it on the network, so that's what he's gonna do!
Extra Details: Basically, feel free to give me any more info you think I may need in terms of what to tell people in a log, otherwise I think I asked everything already on the FAQ.
When: Sometime next month! Bc clearly we need spooky traumatizing shit in addition to whatever is planned for November.

The Idea: In exchange for the terminal adapter that IG-11 has requested to plug directly into his computer, Doll has asked the droid to prepare at least thirty healthy meals for other people. They didn't say all the meals had to be prepared at once, but IG-11 is nothing if not efficient. Once he learns what Thanksgiving is (likely through Falco), the pair will spend some time refining their cooking skills before preparing a Thanksgiving feast for all who wish to participate.

Extra Details: This is open to tweaking depending on how game plots shake out for the month of November - and if it doesn't really fit what's already been planned, then no worries.

When: Thanksgiving itself!

The Idea: This is more of a personal character arc that I think would be fun to play with in the setting! If it doesn’t belong here, just let me know and I can post it elsewhere.

As you know, Light is missing his memories of being Kira, an ideological mass murderer who kills people with a supernatural notebook. I would like to play with the idea of him maybe coming to the slow realization that he’s actually missing very important memories and might not have been that great of a person in reality. Whether this is through the environment, the NPCs, tasks given to him via the NPCs, RNG rolls, or events, I’m down for anything.
Extra Details: ...which is a roundabout way of saying I actually don’t know how to go about this, other than a vague suggestion of something implying that maybe he’s killed a bunch of people (or the environment reacting to him to show as much), or some in-game conceit for him to slowly regain his lost memories in fragments.
When: Any time, but also I would want this to be an on-going character arc for him! So it would take a while to reach an actual boiling point, ideally. If nothing else, I think this would play nicely into the idea of “guilt” and bettering oneself (maybe) that seems to be floating around in-game.

Basically, I’m just here for character arc guidance!! Help me, modly one.

Characters Involved: Sabriel and who ever she manages to recruit.
The Idea: Emergency preparations! Which could take multiple forms- setting up stockpiles, identifying potential safe places to head to if they need to evacuate the town, and trying to modify some abandoned houses into supply depots/emergency shelters, full of bunk beds and emergency supplies and covered in the best protection spells and wards anyone can muster. Also, figuring out which stuff they need to stockpile, and what skills people need training in. Also, making hand to hand weapons(like attaching knife blades to poles to make spears)? Maybe? Sabriel has a hard time expecting guns to be useful.

Extra Details: This could potentially tie into Sabriel's deal for the Charter stone, as she can anchor spells- including protective spells- to the stone. Or just draw on it to enchant a bunch of knives.

When: Around the end of November? This is a loose idea and I'm happy to adjust it.

Characters Involved: Mostly just this ridiculous man, I guess!
The Idea:

Just kinda taking a wild shot in the dark here, so I’m really sorry if I’m being too presumptuous or forward about anything! (Or if this belongs somewhere else, I’m more than happy to take it there!) But basically, given some relatively recent canon revelations about Vangeance’s ability and the slowly unraveling dealio regarding the island and that mana mantle with the malevolent force inside and World Speakers and all that, I’d love some pointers about how his powerset would interact with things ... ? And/or offer him up as a plot device?

I didn’t specify in his app since I didn’t think it would be super relevant to the game at the time, but the latest arc of his canon states that he’s one of two elements required for opening up a channel to the underworld. The exact details of his magic are still a little wishy-washy, but between this and another canon incident, the implication is that any other strong magic in conjunction with his World Tree Magic is capable of creating really potent bridges/connections, for good or for evil.

Basically: the meta plot seems incredibly interesting and I’ve been waffling about ways to start gently prodding at it, but I wasn’t sure how the magnitude of this ridiculous clown’s abilities would interact with things, ahaha. I originally wanted to have him reach into that mana mantle to try to neutralize a tiny portion of that scary force’s mana, but then wasn’t sure if maybe that was a way bigger commitment than I’d first assumed it’d be. If he can attempt that without any large-scale consequences that’d affect other characters (too much), then I’m more than happy to take this back to the RNG page! But if it has the potential to cause more trouble, I’d love your help in figuring things out, either as a player plot or whatever else would be appropriate.

Extra Details: Again, I don’t meant to be presumptuous at all, but if Vangeance’s ability would make him at all useful as a plot device for a future event or anything, I’d love to to offer him up in any context! Also, no qualms about him unwittingly (or semi-wittingly? maybe even willingly?) being the villain/instigator of an incident or anything, given his canon antagonist status.

When: Anytime ... ?

Also I’m so sorry about the constant waffling in your inbox, thank you always for all your patience and hard work, mods!

Characters Involved: Matoba, probably frequently Natori, and aaany other characters who get pulled in on a month-to-month case!

The Idea: Okay, so! As mentioned in Matoba's app, I'd really like the ayakashi that stalks/curses the Matoba clan to follow him here- either the literal thing, a corrupted version of it, or perhaps a Silence/island-created dream-version of it based on the setting's idea of Matoba's expectation of it! I wanted to get your advisement as far as which avenue you think would work best in the setting, as I'd like it to be a continuous monthly plotting device for me to use in CR (and if you're so inclined, I'd like to offer it as a plot device to possibly affect the setting, however you'd like to use it as a threat as well!)

Additionally, I would love to use the RNG page as an additional unknown factor to see how the ayakashi decides to attack each month! Something like a 10/100 chance to show up in a human form and from there I can plot out the details to see if anyone would like it to take their character's form, something like that! Below is all the details of what we know about it in canon.

Extra Details: The ayakashi generally has the appearance of a huge, slithering black mass with eyes- except the right eye is missing, leaving a gouged hole (it also has a mouth). On very rare occasions, it's mentioned to take on human form- but its right eye is always missing. The ayakashi is capable of very limited speech but doesn't seem capable of a real conversation, although it seems to be able to understand human speech to some extent.

The ayakashi seems to seek out the Matoba either by scent or by aura, but it isn't very smart and its aim isn't good, so the Matoba clan frequently distract it with bullseye-patterned objects such as parasols (also fitting, since they're a clan of archers). So it's totally possible that it could attack another exorcist or someone who smells like one by mistake, which Matoba is also ...likely to make use of in order to protect himself. Think of it like a bull and a matador, but each pass is monthly.

It has a powerful and malicious aura and in some extremely not-well-explained way, the Matoba clan and its power are cyclically linked, so that the malice of the ayakashi and its desire for the eye is what fuels the Matoba's spiritual energy. Apparently, even if the head of Matoba is killed, as long as their eye remains in the socket and the ayakashi doesn't claim it, the curse will continue on to the next clan head (which means I can have Matoba die as muuuch as I want until I want to do something dramatic with eye trauma!)

When: Monthly! The eye ayakashi shows up once per month but not on a set schedule, so this makes it easy for me to either fit it in with whatever plotting I'm doing that month, or just handwave the attacks if need be.

The Idea an IC resource/book about what characters have shared on the network/discovered about the island so far (excluding everything that's been filtered or discussed in-person) that charas can read and contribute to if they want!! basically, just jumping off of seonho's suggestion to the admin about just sticking a guide in the... anime library??? town bulletin board?? this one won't have anything about the Silence besides a warning not to discuss it.
When it starts hopefully when the next batch of newbies come in! (i was planning on making an IC post about it then to let charas know they can add stuff -- and that it exists)

Otherwise, idk if you wanted to make a post on [personal profile] upcyclingmod for it and add whatever people post in the comments below?? SUGGESTION

[personal profile] bindsthedead 2020-12-16 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
Player: Sarah
The Idea: Monsters!
When: ongoing

I have some ideas for monsters wickies could deal with outside of events. I'm including the one I've finished the writeup for (although it still needs some editing), but I have ideas for three more. (And at least two of them are much more "something combat oriented characters could hunt down and fight"

False Friend

The False Friend will initially appear as someone a Wickie knows while they're alone in the forest. It could be someone they've met on the island, or someone they know from home. In either case, it's someone they have neutral to positive feelings about, and they will register to all of the Wickie's passive senses, including superhuman and supernatural ones, as what they'd expect that person to look and feel like. The False Friend will act how the Wickie expects that person to act, and will try to get the Wickie to follow them to a more isolated area.

Psychicly sensitive wickies, if they pay attention, will notice a barely perceptible touch on their mind- the False Friend scans the surface thoughts of its target, and uses that to create the appearance and say the words their target expects.

If the Wickie follows the False Friend, then as soon as their guard is down and the two are truly alone, the False Friend lashes out, clawing at the Wickie and draining a large portion of their energy, leaving the Wickie exhausted and struggling to deal with the False Friend's subsequent attacks if the monster manages to land a hit. At this point, the creature's appearance shifts, becoming a distorted, monstrous version of the person they were imitating, with round black pits for eyes and an impossibly wide mouth full of metallic needle teeth. It is possible to kill the False Friend, but it may be difficult, as it can use the energy its drained to strengthen itself, and reduce the effectiveness of attacks against it, although this reservoir of stolen energy will deplete as the battle drags on. The False Friend is an ambush predator, and can easily be defeated if its initial attack fails, or if it's interrupted while feeding.

False Friends will not kill their targets, but they will leave them unconscious and drained of energy if they are able to complete an attack uninterrupted. Characters will find themselves with bruises and needle like puncture wounds, and will need to take time to recuperate and regain lost energy..

If another Wickie shows up, the False friend will act the way their target would expect them to act around that person- if the target doesn't know the person being imitated is friends with the second Wickie, the False Friend will act as though they don't know the second Wickie. Because the False Friend only scans their target's mind, if the second wickie has any senses the target doesn't, those senses will register that the False Friend is not what they seem. Meanwhile, the False Friend will keep attempting to get their target alone with them.

If the second Wickie is the one the False Friend is imitating, the creature will insist that they're the real one, and the second Wickie is the fake. To convince their target, they will act like a 'better' version of the second Wickie- not just what the target expects, but a better version, what the wickie wishes their friend was. If the Wickie is fooled, the False Friend will suggest attacking the 'impostor', but its main focus will be on getting the Wickie alone.

If the Wickie refuses to follow them, the False friend will appear to accept this, and instead follow the Wickie for an hour or so, before eventually departing. During this time their conversation will mostly be what the Wickie would expect that person to say, but the False Friend will subtly, in ways that seem mostly in character, try to undermine the Wickie's other CR. Over the next few days, the Wickie will notice scratches on and around the doors and windows of their home, like someone was trying to get in. The Wickie will have nightmares about terrible things happening to the person the False Friend is imitating- often inflicted by others that the Wickie knows. They'll wake from those nightmares to find the one they were about outside their window, looking terrified, begging to be let in. If they do, the False Friend will attack them.

If the Wickie's player wants them infected with Silence (Or if the Wickie is a Worldspeaker/Blessed?), the False Friend will still try to get them alone, but instead of attacking, will offer an amused, knowing smile, like the two of them are in on some joke that no one else knows, and hug the Wickie.

The Wickie will feel a sudden jab, like they've been stuck with a needle- and the false friend vanishes, seemingly into thin air. The wickie will then need to make an infection roll.

Weakness- Mirrors. In any form, if shown their reflection in a mirror or piece of reflective metal the size of a powder compact or larger, the False Friend's features will distort in horror, and they'll flee, leaving the character alone for good.
bindsthedead: (art-lay them to rest)

[personal profile] bindsthedead 2020-12-19 01:26 am (UTC)(link)
Player: Sarah
Event Idea: Basically, the Silence tries to grant everyone's wish to go home (and infect them in the process) in its own fucked up way. It starts with characters finding small objects that are unmistakably from their home world. Upon taking said objects back to their housing, characters will have an incredibly vivid dream of their homes (Or an idealized version of what they wish their homes were like).

After that dream, once characters wake up, they'll have no further dreams of any sort (or may be unable to sleep at all?) but what will happen is that they'll start hallucinating that they're back home, in that dream. Their perception of reality will shift between the dream world (whose denizens will try to convince them that it's 'real' and that they're 'back home', please ignore how many things are purple) and the island.

This will go on for several days, until someone in the dream world, taking the form of someone they trust, explains that in order to 'wake up all the way' they need to destroy what's keeping them in the dream. At this point even their perception of the island itself will be distorted, seeing everything a rotting and twisted, and seeing the other residents as monsters.

At this point, if they attack anyone with the weapon, they and the person they attack will have to take an infection roll. If someone gets the weapon away from them for a few minutes (or if they earlier threw away the item they found) then they'll come to their senses as the Silence's influence over them ceases.
When: January or February? I see this as being a week long event, so it could combine with something that's not as heavy.

Suggestion: monster ideas!
When: ongoing

Oak-Spotted Cat

This is a large creature, about the size of a tiger. It resembles a dark brown big cat, covered in white spots shaped like oak leaves. It can move silently through the forest when stalking prey, but when it spots a Wickie, it will roar loudly, and make sure they can see it, and know it's coming for them with its sharp teeth and claws. Brave wickies, and those with some kind of power, may try to fight it off at this point.

These attempts will fail. The Oak-Spotted Cat is impervious to physical attacks, and magical and energy attacks bounce off of it at twice the strength they were cast. Attempts an restraining the cat can succeed, but magical effects will fade much more quickly than expected, although they will still give wickies time to run.

Weakness- Willow. The Oak-Spotted cat will not approach willow trees, and if wickies seek shelter beneath one (or in one's branches) they will be safe. Willow is also the creature's only weakness- even a slight brush with a willow twig will leave a gaping wound, and a character armed with a willow branch can easily defeat an Oak-Spotted Cat, or force it to flee. Willow is easily found in the forest, so characters don't need to worry about rolling on the RNG to find some.

Shadow Beasts

Found if Wickies wander off the paths in the forest at night, and in the caves forming in the north at all times, Shadow Beasts are what their name implies- animate shadows, shaped like wolves. They're resistant to most nonmagical physical attacks, but not immune. Their primarily vulnerability is light and fire- any spells with these elements will severely damage them, as will mundane light and flame. Shadow Beasts can only tolerate light for limited periods of time, and will try to jump from shadow to shadow to get close to characters.

They're pack predators- if you see one in front of you, assume three more are circling around to attack you from behind, and they like to go for sneak attacks.

Fuzzy little assholes

They're adorable balls of fluff, with huge purple eyes and fluffy white fur that on closer inspection is a pale shade of lilac. They've got tiny, adorable little paws, and they have no fear of humans- they're perfectly willing to be petted and cuddled.

Of course, the downside is that they're impossible to house-train when they decide they're done being petted, they'll bite and scratch- and any Wickie bitten or scratched will roll with disadvantage on any Silence infection rolls for the next 24 hours, along with feeling unusually short-tempered and impulsive during that time. In addition to chewing on furniture, they can also chew through wards and protective spells, meaning characters may have to recast those spells after they get the little fuzzballs out of their home.

The Idea: You've mentioned that caves are forming in the north, so I thought 'what if one was much deeper than the others! Characters could go on a spelunking expedition!'

I can write up RNG tables of what characters might find down there(environmental hazards, monsters, weird mushrooms, Silence-related dangers, items they can find), so mods won't need to do any more work for the event than just sign off that what I've written is okay.
