HOW TO APPLY

• Make sure to read the RULES and the FAQ.
• You may app only one character per app round.
• Your character's canon must have been available in English for two weeks minimum.
• Mods will consult character wikis when they are unfamiliar with the canon in question. If you are concerned about this, please mention it in the Special Notes section of the app.
• To submit an application, post a reply with the character’s name and canon in the subject line. Links are fine.
• Do not join the communities until you’ve been accepted.
• If you've been asked to revise, you have 72 hours to do so. Please reply to the revision request with your additions and changes. Do not rewrite your original application for submission!
• If your application is rejected, you may try again next app round.

THE APPLICATION EXPLAINED

Name: Player handle.
Age: Player age, should be over 18.
Contact Info: This can be discord, plurk, PM, or email. We just need some way to contact you!

Character: Character's known name(s).
Canon: What media your character comes from. For original characters, Original is fine!
Canon Point: When is your character coming from in their story?
CR or Canon AU?: If your character differs from their standard canon version, let us know!
Character Age: Character's age, or an estimation if unknown.

Suitability: Delete this if your character is 18 or older! Otherwise, this can be one or two sentences that state how your character has handled difficult situations in the past. As long as your character won't be rendered unplayable by the physical and mental strains expected in a horror game, you'll be fine.

What is the greatest negative emotion they've ever experienced?: Were they filled with hate? Apathy? Regret? What happened to incite this emotion? Were they wronged and are now undergoing a hateful vendetta? Do they regret not confessing to the love of their life before losing them to someone else?

This should be one core emotion. It can be directly related to or encompass other emotions (such as hatred being a combination of envy and anger), but we are not looking for a list of unrelated emotions. Please include a description of what event or series of events invoked this emotion.

How aware are they of this negative emotion?: Does your character realize just how much this emotion has affected them since they first experienced it? If your character is self-aware, describe how it's changed their outlook in the present. If your character is in denial, describe the mental hoops they jump through not to see what's right in front of their eyes.

How do they act on this emotion in canon?: How do they act on it? Or do they try to hide it from others? If your character is afraid of the dark, explain how they reacted that one time there was a sudden black out. Did they freeze up, or did they try way too hard to pretend they weren't terrified?

This section should include one or two examples of specific moments in canon when this emotion clearly affects the character's decisions.

What is the greatest positive virtue they exhibit?: Are they persistent? Brave? Generous? Did they come out of the womb like this, or were they shaped by an important event in their life? Did they receive help at their lowest point and are now determined to be charitable at every opportunity? Did their parents teach them to always be polite and courteous?

This should be one core virtue - a single, commendable character trait that informs the character's goals. It can be directly related to or encompass other virtues (such as resilience being a combination of flexibility and persistence), but we are not looking for a list of unrelated virtues. Please include an explanation of what principles, experiences, or idealogies motivate this virtue.

How aware are they of their virtue?: Does your character realize just how strongly their virtue affects their actions? If your character is self-aware, describe how it defines their outlook in the present. If your character is in denial, describe how their ignorance affects their self-image.

How do they display this virtue in canon?: How do they act on it? Or do they try to hide it from others? If your character is very generous, elaborate on what they did with their fortune that one time they won the lottery. Did they buy everyone in the bar a drink, or did they send money anonymously to someone in need?

This section should include one or two examples of specific moments in canon when this virtue clearly drives the character's decisions.

OC only, delete if not OC
World Summary: A short summary of your OC's world and their place within it. Doesn't need to be more than a paragraph or two. We are not looking for intricate details, just an overview.

CRAU only, delete if not CRAU
What game are you bringing your character from?: What game were they in prior to Upcycle?
What has changed for your character during their stint in this game?: How has being in this new environment changed your character physically and mentally? Have they opened up more? Did they lose an eye? These can be small or large changes, but please present them with context.
Do you want to reset your character?: Do you want to reverse a transformation or negate powers they received in game? This is a way to reset your character's looks or abilities back to their canon state while retaining all of their in game memories.

Powers/Abilities: A list of powers and abilities they possess in their canon or have gained from their CRAU. This could be anything from hacking skills to eye lasers.

Any powers that would allow the character to leave the island need to be adjusted. Any powers that might be against the game's rules need to be adjusted. Everything else will be accepted into the game as is.

Items: 1-3 items from your character's canon! These can be weapons, clothes, any object that isn't too large for the character to carry. These are things that your character will be holding or will have on their person when they arrive.

Samples: A link to any thread that has taken place in the last year. It should contain at least 5 comments from your character. Samples are meant to be a small insight into the character's personality and thought process. As long as it is readable, does not contradict the rest of the app, and there is a distinct character voice present, we will accept it.

Special Notes: This space is for anything players might want to mention to the mods! Let us know if there are missing senses that you want restored for your character, if your character has particular health needs, whether you're okay with nerfing certain abilities, or even if you're concerned about the incompleteness of your character's wikipedia page. It's a free-for-all.

This is also where any player can request a canon companion who will join your character in game. Companions should be non-appable characters such as pets, pokemon, or mounts. For a more in-depth explanation, please read the FAQ entry under the Applications header.
